About Shea Animal Hospital
Established in 1960, Shea Animal Hospital moved to its current location in 1989 and has operated as a full service clinic ever since. In 1974, Shea Animal Hospital was awarded the distinction of full AAHA accreditation. This is an honor that is still standing today and we work very hard to continue to provide the best available medicine and surgery to our patients.
Meet the Team
Dr. Rick Sampson graduated from the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. Dr. Sampson and his wife, Dr. Rita Roberts, moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1980. In 1991, after spending several years as associate veterinarians, Dr. Sampson and Dr. Roberts purchased Shea Animal Hospital.
Dr. Sampson is currently living in Scottsdale and shares his life with his wife Rita, daughter Marena, three dogs - Babette, Scout and Izzy, a quarter horse - Doc, Mo the cat and a desert tortoise. Dr. Sampson thoroughly enjoys working with many different types of animals and treats most exotic species. He is considered a man of great warmth who has a wonderful rapport with his patients and their loving owners.
Dr. Maren Troum has been with Shea Animal Hospital since September 2002. She moved to Phoenix in 1997 after receiving her VMD degree from the only Ivy League veterinary school- the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Troum shares her life with her husband-Chris, her two Chihuahuas- Paddy and Shopie, her basenji-Star, and her hiking partner -Chase, a Border collie mix. Dr. Troum treats dogs and cats and has never met a dog she did not love. Dr. Troum is a talented and compassionate veterinarian who truly excels at all soft tissue surgery.
