Protecting Your Pet’s Teeth with Oral Health Prevention & Treatment

dog-dental-shea-animal-hospitalA buildup of plaque on your pet’s teeth can cause infection and periodontal disease, which can reduce your pet’s quality of life and even shorten its life span. Bad oral hygiene in pets can result in problems like heart disease, kidney problems and tooth loss.

The best way to treat oral health issues is to prevent them from ever occurring. During your pet’s regular wellness visit, we will examine its teeth and establish an oral health treatment plan. Depending upon your pet’s tendency to develop plaque, we may recommend regular professional cleaning and polishing to prevent plaque from occurring. If your pet already has oral health problems, we may recommend periodontal treatments and extractions.  To keep your pet’s teeth sparkling between visits, we offer a range of products including toothbrushes and toothpaste, oral rinses and special diets.

Shea Animal Hospital is dedicated to helping your pet live a healthy, happy life. Please contact us today with your questions or concerns, or to schedule an exam.

Did You Know...

Cats, unlike dogs, do not learn tricks to win your approval. Cats can be taught to perform tasks such as retrieving toys and jumping through hoops – but it may take patience and perseverance…and quite a few yummy treats for your feline.
